I found I can only rewind if I shove the wire back in manually
I am beyond frustrated
@@StaceyLittoteresi-o8n If you need additional assistance, please call our customer service department at 800-245-6200, Mon-Fri, 8am to 5pm Eastern.
No matter what I do mine will not rewind, it is not that simple
Can I put a 5/8 or 3/4 cable on a machine with a 1/2 cable?
Used my bosses auger and this happened to me. Thought I broke it 😂😂. Thank you for this video, now I can sleep tonight
So it just self coils? How does the drill move it then?
The drill spins the container. The cable must be feed into the drain by hand. General has other models with an automatic feed.
@@drainbrain12 I picked one up for $15 at my local hardware store, but the thing stopped working, so I opened it up to check what happened. There was a screw holding metal prongs into the snake, but no where that I could see where it was supposed to hook. Now I have to fix this thing, but I don't know how. Every thing I'm finding just says to shove the snake into the drum
@@misange137 The cable catcher on the back end if the snake is designed to prevent the cable from sliding out of the container accidentally. It does not secure to the container as that would cause the cable to tangle in the drum. Simply squeeze the prongs together and slide it into the spout on the container. It will be a tight fit. Push it through, then push through the rest of the cable into the container. If you have any additional questions, please call the Drain Brains at General at 800-245-6200.
@@drainbrain12 Thank you! I appreciate this response. I thought I broke it, but I was able to get the cord back in the drum. I'm not sure if it'll catch with drill use, but I'm able to coil it by hand. I was also able to get some stuff unclogged and the water flowing again. Thank you!
Dear Sweet Baby Jesus Lord God Above. I had to extend mine all the way and could not get it to wind back in for anything. It got a tennis ball sized clump of goop out, mission accomplished, so I was even fine with throwing it away but couldnt see how to safely dispose of this unruly 25 foot metal python. It sat on the patio fully extended for a month. Couldnt help but laugh hysterically when this did the trick in 10 seconds. THANK YOU.
This thing will work the absolute stew out of you. I’ve been working at my job for 16 months. None of these guys had a urinal auger on their truck. I went on call last night, and get a late shift call out from my usual late in the shift call-out DA. He had fudged the w/o to make it look like they hadn’t been sitting on it all day. I knew the guy that had just gone off call had this. I borrowed it while I took out on my 40 minute drive, while everyone else was getting ready to clock out, which put me there at my standard time. Right when the DA and his shift were leaving. I’m telling you I pumped on this thing and tried garbage snakes with bent cables and cutoff heads for an hour. Mainly this thing. Cause I could tell it was actually moving the clog to some degree. Just get the wooky. I try to stick with general equipment for my personal truck, but not on this old perfume sprayer contraption.
Can you use it in toilets
Can anyone tell me what position the toggle switch (NOT thumb screw) should be in to rewind the snake back into the canister.
The motor switch should always be in Forward, whether you are feed the cable into the drain or pulling it out. Running the motor in reverse risks tangling the cable in the drum. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
I bought a snake with no drum. Rotating it was impractical at best and tears my gloves - not so bad for the first use but I don't want to touch it next time! Anyone know how to MAKE a drum with a spinning mechanism?
It doesn’t cost much to buy the unit shown in the video. It’s a lot easier than the old off set handle method and cleaner to use.
How you get it out
Awesome! Simple and SO key to getting the job done.
Hahaha I'm so dumb you just have to rewind it like that! Thanks! P.S: Also works with a power-drill Snake Drain.
My coil is bent :(
Replacement cables are available. Contact General at 800-245-6200 or info@drainbrain.com
OH WOW! You made my day! Thank You!
I have a drill auger and the entire cable came out - how do I detach . Looks like it was attached somewhere inside - but I can’t see inside
Does this device locate plastic pipes ?
If you buy the Sonde, you can put it on the end of a snake or fishtape and push it through the plastic pipe, locating as you go.
how do i locate utilities and power line with just this locator or do i need to use the gen eye hot spot trrasmitter ?
You can use your Hot Spot locator to locate active power lines. Just switch the mode to the lighting bolt. You will need the transmitter to locate utilities. It energizes the line so you can locate it. Please take a look at our separate video on how to use the Gen-Eye Hot Spot 5 watt transmitter. Please call the Drain Brains at 800-245-6200 if you have any further questions.
I had a clog at 21ft and completely let out my 15ft auger. Thanks! I kept trying to push the end in, trying to find a "catch," then trying to reverse the spin. I was just standing there for an hour doing nothing but wasting time. This worked in 12 seconds. lol
how good an accurate is the General Wire GL-100 Gen-Eye Hot Spot Pipe Locator on locating utilities and power lines ? i have one but havent had use it , i need ofr plumbing locate sewer lines with sewer camera
Thanks for your video! Snake is back in its can. So simple when you know how.
How the hell do you remove the cover that’s the most important part. answer now
Thank you!
I tried it in the kitchen drain sink but it just splashes water out mostly from somewhere in the garbage disposal but not unclogging the line.
Did you use one of those sink plugs that you'd normally put into the sink/garbage disposal inlet drain (if you wanted to fill up a sink full of water and prevent it from draining)? You might have to have someone apply pressure on it to prevent it from blowing out of the drain, but did you try it that way?
Where can I buy the machine
But can it go through plastic
If there is an obstruction in the drain, it will go through it. When tile guys have there grout & cement in the shower drains, I use this to unclog the drain. It is safe around all types of pipes.
Hank a due
Not a "test". I like my metal one. I wouldn't buy a plastic one.
I bought my metro at Home D rental, used, about 6 years ago for tree roots. It is awesome! The machine is well made, it makes you feel like a pro and has definitely paid for itself multiple times.
What type of hole is this ?
It sounded like the cable popped off of something on the inside. Do I not need to hook it to something with the mechanism?
Thank you so much!
why dont you make a cordless version with batteries?
Why make it cordless with batteries when they can make it how they do now? Cordless without batteries.
@@MaketoMake815have you pumped on this Emmett otter and the jug band thing?
This would be a good way to break a toilet wax ring seal. Lol.
Very good video, definitely agree with you all on his presenting style. He's stellar 👍🏿
Easy Rooter to the Rescue! 🤟
This is the best video explaining the use of a drain snake properly. The others were vague about what to do at the bend or during extraction. Some videos even wrongly suggested rotating it in reverse during extraction, making the snake kinking or stuck!
Very strong equipment General …JM1000 very popular for getting that kitchen grease can’t go wrong
thank you for that info very helpful
AHA!! Thank you for creating this CHANNEL! Ima LOOK for stuff made by you guys, with this kinda customer support!
great explanation, it actually solved a year long problem for me using this tool !
This has been great for me. I use it for mainly greasy kitchen drains, urinals and roots in mainlines. I find them way better then spade and "U" cutters.
What size do you use on kitchen drains ? Thanks
@@honolulu1476 i found the 1" clogchopper to work well because house kitchen lines are 1-1/2". That 1" is good to use up to 2" pipe.
Wow 80 PSI maximum pressure. At that traveling velocity it as fast as a paint ball or a Bebe bullets. This thing must costing about 5 or 6 hundred dollars easily..
Yep 5+
no video of it working?
Gasoline ones are for heavy duty use as in commercial / outdoor applications . Electric ones should be sufficient in household use .
💩
I use to always use General when I was in business they got great cables they're almost Unbreakable
This shit works almost. New company has one on truck, used it on floor drain other day cleared it in two pumps. As well at kitchen drain👍👍 highly recommend
I tried in in the kitchen drain sink but it just splashes water out and mostly from somewhere in the garbage disposal but not unclogging the line.
See " how to install snake into cannister drain cleaning auger". If yours has a back on it.
thanks man!
